Calling All Chefs or Wannabe Chefs!

by Addicted to Saving on July 29, 2010

Okay – So I have wanted to post recipes that match up with each week’s sales ads for a LONG TIME now..  However, I just haven’t had the time to put together fun recipes and post them.  I was wondering if anyone is already putting together recipes that match each week’s sales flyer.  I would love to start posting a recipe or two to match each week’s sales ad!  (The ad can be for whichever store you like to shop at!)  And, if you want to get really into it, I can even post a picture or two if you choose to take a pic of your masterpiece.  Anyone interested in helping out?  Feel free to leave a comment on this post or shoot me an email!  :)

Here’s a recipe that I made night before last using the sockeye salmon. We were going to grill steaks but then I remembered I wanted to try the salmon. I think I spent about $14.00 on enough salmon for 4 people and I had all of the other ingredients on hand.

Sweet & Spicy Sockeye – OH MY!

Sockeye Salmon Steaks
Weber Sweet & Savory Salmon Dry Rub
Olive Oil
Thai Sweet Chili Sauce (found on the ethnic aisle)
Orange Marmamlade

Cut the pieces of salmon into 4 steaks.
Rinse and pat dry.
Rub with Olive Oil and sprinkle with Weber Sweet & Savory Salmon Dry Rub
Heat a nonstick pan to medium and put the steaks seasoned side down. Cook through and turn.
While the salmon is cooking add 1/4 cup of Sweet Chili Sauce and 1 tablespoon of orange marmalade to a small saucepan. Heat and stir.
When the salmon is done, drizzle the sauce over each steak. I served some frozen broccoli on the side (sale item from previous weeks) and some Knorr garlic shells (sale item in stockpile). This meal takes 15 minutes tops to prepare and is really good.

For the past few weeks I’ve been visiting once-upon-a-coupon.com. She does a weekly natural/organic menu based on what’s on sale. The menu does not maximize all of the available coupons for the week, but many things are easily substituted especially if you’ve already stocked up. Her goal is to keep everything under $100/week for a family of four….I’ve managed to basically keep the same meal plan with a few of my own modifications for under $50. Maybe once I get a stockpile of items I will be able to spend even less.

Oh, someone PLEASE do this!! I am a self-admitted horrible cook and when I look in my pantry (which is nice and full thanks to Liza), I have no idea what to do!! I can follow a recipe, but can’t put one together for the life of me!!!

My family would greatly appreciate a little variety in what I put on the dining room table!! :)
