AWESOME CVS Coupon Policy Update

by Addicted to Saving on February 7, 2012

I have great news for you if you shop at CVS!! They have updated their coupon policy regarding Buy One Get One Free Sales!  If you recall, they recently changed their policy to only allowing you to use one coupon on a BOGO sale – even though you are buying two items.  They received a lot of backlash from couponers like you and me and they have changed their policy yet again.  This time, the policy is in OUR favor.  Going forward, if CVS has a BOGO sale, we can use two $x/1 coupons on the two items we are purchasing!  See the example below:

Trident Gum on sale BOGO $2.99 for two
Minus two $1.00/1 Trident Gum coupons
Total Due: $0.99 or $0.49 each

I highly recommend you go HERE to print out the revamped CVS policy and take it to the store with you when you go shopping.

Below are some highlights from the policy:

  • The total value of the coupons may not exceed the value of the transaction. Sales tax must be paid, if required by state law.
  • CVS/pharmacy will accept manufacturer coupons for an item that is on sale.
  • CVS/pharmacy will not accept percent off coupons for an item that is on sale.
  • In the event that any item’s price is less than the value of the coupon, CVS/pharmacy will only accept the coupon only to the price of the item. CVS/pharmacy does not provide cash back in exchange for any coupons.  **In other words, no overage
  • CVS/pharmacy accepts one manufacturer coupon and applicable CVS/pharmacy coupon(s) per item, unless prohibited by either coupon offer.
  • There is no limit to the number of ExtraBucks Rewards that may be used in a transaction as long as it does not exceed the transaction total. **LOVE this. This is why shopping at CVS is easier than Walgreens
  • The coupon amount will be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied. (For example, a $5.00 coupon for a $4.99 item will result in a $4.99 coupon value).
  • Two coupons may be used on a Buy One, Get One Free promotion as long as it does not exceed the item total
  • Buy One, Get One Free promotions may be combined with Buy One, Get One Free Coupons. Customers are responsible for paying applicable tax
  • CVS/pharmacy accepts internet/print at home coupons that include a barcode.

Hmm.. no overage? I guess that is on a transaction level. These are the things I bought last Sunday.
6 Suave body wash $2 each (sale)
Used 2 B2G1 coupon (deducted $6).
Initial total due was $6.84 (including tax)
I have $7 ECB from last weeks’ transaction so I have to buy more stuff. I bought 3 Dove chocolate singles on sale (B2G1 $0.99).
Total OOP: $1.84.
Take home ECB: $4

Sorry Marylou! The trident coupons were made up in my mind :) I just created the scenario as an example to explain the new policy. Sorry for the confusion!

Prior to signing up with you over 6 months ago, I had never shopped at CVS. I have to say that now I am a loyal CVS customer and never go to Walgreens unless the deal is nearly a freebie. I Love CVS
