Happy Friday! Hopefully you are able to stay warm during these cold cold days! I posted on my personal Facebook page about how cold I was (the temp at the time was 36 degrees). Many of my friends chimed in and shared how it was 20 below, 8 degrees, 10 below, etc etc. So, I guess I can’t really complain that it was 36 degrees. Especially considering tomorrow, the weather is supposed to get in the 70s!

We’ve had an uneventful week. Hubby has been sick and when he’s sick, the world seems to stop. We’ve been pumping him with healthy concoctions of apple cider vinegar, Hyland’s cold tablets and he’s been putting my essential oil concoction on his feet (along with diffusing it) and yet his cold is still lingering. Sometimes I feel like when hubby is sick, I’m parenting two kiddos. Can anyone relate? ;)

This week my Publix shopping trip had us taking advantage of a few of the sales and also buying lots of produce. You may remember me saying that I put our coop on hold as I found that we weren’t using enough of the bounty for me to justify the cost. Today is a day that I’m wishing I hadn’t paused the coop! I’m headed to a local farmstand tomorrow to get more veggies because today’s haul won’t last long. Tomorrow I’m starting a meal plan that my chiropractor, Dr Serrano at Ignite Chiropractic, recommends. Because of my issues, my next month is going to be a pretty rough one. But allegedly, just the first few days are the worst, so you might want to avoid me until the middle of next week ;)

Please remember that you do not see any chicken or ground beef purchased because we have stocked up on boneless, skinless chicken breasts and ground beef with Zaycon Foods. **Right now Zaycon Foods is taking reservations for their upcoming Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts, Bacon, Sausage links, Chuck Roast, Patio Steaks, Pulled Pork and more Events!

So you’re on Facebook but aren’t seeing my posts? Make sure you join the Addicted to Saving Private Group to be sure you don’t miss any deals!

Our shopping trip was very light this week! In fact, hubby got our coupons together while I was giving our son a bath and then hubby ran to Publix and did our shopping trip in the last few minutes before the store closed. We had yet another wonderful week. Time is flying. Watching my two year old get more and more mature is just amazing. We can have regular conversations while we eat dinner each night going over the day’s events. It’s crazy to ask him questions and have him (most often) answer them appropriately. Gone are his baby days (I’m sad about that)!

You can see from the picture above that we focused on a few of the good deals (our stockpile was depleted of apple sauce and as much as I love to make homemade applesauce, let’s be honest… I don’t make it as often as I wish as I could). My dog is very excited about the dog treats and I’m very excited about the tortillas. I forsee lots of Mexican Food in our near future!

So don’t forget! Because I’m living off my stockpile, my Photo Show & Tell will have two parts now. The first part will be the BEST deals that I would take advantage of if I had a need for them. The second part will show the exactly items I purchased and the coupons I used. So if you usually follow my lead and buy what I buy, I would recommend you pay attention to the scenario I concocted for you with the best deals. That is what I would buy if my freezer wasn’t overflowing and if my cabinets weren’t full.

How did you do this week?

Please remember that you do not see any chicken or ground beef purchased because we have stocked up on boneless, skinless chicken breasts and ground beef with Zaycon Foods. **Right now Zaycon Foods is taking reservations for their upcoming Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts, Bacon, Sausage links, Chuck Roast, Patio Steaks, Pulled Pork and more Events! You also do not see much produce as we belong to a coop and every other week get a delivery of organic fruits and veggies.

We are on week three of living off our stockpile! It has been interesting. Because I’m still grocery shopping (albeit much less), we are still spending money on groceries. But we have been spending much less. For the third week in a row, our grocery spending has been between $34 and $38. Not bad considering prior to this venture, we were spending around $50/week at the grocery store plus $55 bi-weekly for our organic coop. In addition to the $34-$38, we do spend money on eggs, milk, and produce. I stopped the veggie coop we belonged to because I was finding that we were wasting some of the produce. So now we are buying just what we need. I found a local farmstand that sells organic, free range eggs for $4.99 (20 eggs!) and they also have great produce prices. I’m going to head there this weekend to check them out. I would much rather stop there twice a week for fresh produce than have my coop produce go bad. That said, I did love getting our coop bounties. We’re just in a stage of life right now where things are really hectic. And sometimes I’m in survival mode. So eating as healthy as we should is sometimes put on the wayside. I keep telling myself this is just a stage of life? It is… right? :)

Happy Friday! We had a great week this week! And, as great as the week was, I’m very excited that Friday is finally here. We don’t have a huge weekend planned and my toddler doesn’t believe in letting me sleep in on Saturday mornings ;), but I do like being able to slow down a bit and get some things on our to-do list crossed off. Last weekend I went through all of the food in our house and gave away a ton of it. I was pleased to see that not much of it had expired. In fact, none of our dry goods had expired. Just a few things hidden in the very back of our freezer. It is great to have organized pantries and freezers. Now I know exactly what we have and it is a lot easier to throw meals together quickly!

There are definitely some great deals to be taken advantage of at Publix! I didn’t buy a ton, but I put together an awesome scenario for you where you will purchase $160 worth of groceries for just $50! Or, you can follow the scenario I did although as you can see in the picture above, we bought mostly produce this week!

**Right now Zaycon Foods is taking reservations for their upcoming BACON, Sausage links, Chuck Roast, Patio Steaks, Pulled Pork and more Events! You also do not see much produce as we belong to a coop and every other week get a delivery of organic fruits and veggies.

We had a fabulous week this week! Our two year old seems to be potty trained! We only had one accident this week and in all honesty, it wasn’t his fault! I’m excited to think about all of the money we will save not needing to use diapers. Although I have boxes and boxes of diapers stockpiled away that we will probably never use on him! I’m still using a diaper on him at nap and bedtime. So at least I know we will have enough to cover us for months and months to come :)

stockpile-2015

You may have read my post yesterday about my overflowing stockpile? If you haven’t, go HERE. Because of the fact that we have enough food to last us at least 6 months, I’m going to begin shopping differently each week. I will still take advantage of some of the deals, but not all of them. Because honestly, I’m trying to spend less money. Money has become tight and we have to scale back where we can. And one of the places is grocery shopping. Usually we go grocery shopping with the mentality that we don’t need the food but we want to buy it to show all of you the best deals to be had. Well, since we have an awesome stockpile, I really want to eat the food we do have and hopefully save a bit of money at the same time. That said, after seeing my total grocery bill today, I’m a bit concerned that we won’t be saving that much. Buying organic milk and eggs for our son is pricey!

So my Photo Show & Tell will have two parts now.

Living Off What I Have with my Overflowing Stockpile

This post may contain a link to an affiliate. See my disclosure policy for more information.

New here? Like us on Facebook below:

stockpile-2015

So I have a huge confession to make. I guess it isn’t really a confession… so much as it is an admission. My stockpile is at capacity. A few days ago I was going through the freezer in my garage and I realized that there was no free space in it. And the freezer is ginormous. Then I was going through one of my pantries and I realized it too did not have much free space. And I started feeling guilty. When I blog on Addicted to Saving and when I give coupon classes, I help all of you learn how to get the best deals while you are shopping and I give you tips on growing your stockpile. But I also tell you that if you let your food expire or if you have more food in your stockpile than you will use, that you are actually being wasteful and not good stewards. So, all that to say, I am going to be going through my cabinets, pantries and freezers and we are going to start really living off of our stockpile. And we are going to give away a ton of food that we will not eat.

Why do I need to tell you this? For a couple of reasons :) First, I want you to see that it IS possible to grow a stockpile even with the tightening coupon policies, higher prices of food and less and less high value coupons to use. (I’m still sad about the fact that we don’t get Red Plum coupon inserts in Tampa Bay.) When I first started couponing, we bought 8 (yes eight) newspapers every Sunday because I wanted 8 of each coupon. Now, we buy 4 papers. And most often, you will find us buying 2 boxes of pasta (even if they are dirt cheap) or two bottles of juice, etc etc. Even with us buying lesser quantities, we still have grown our stockpile. So don’t think that you have to buy 10 boxes of pasta at one shot. If you buy 4 boxes of pasta this week and then another 4 boxes of pasta next month, chances are that you will have a sufficient enough stockpile of pasta to live off of one box a week for quite a while. (Of course every family has different food preferences and your family sizes are different – so if you go through more pasta than once box a week, you will want to stock up on more than my previous example.)

Secondly, I want this to act as a reminder to you that you too should go through your stockpiles and make sure that your food is all fresh and that if you too have 10 boxes of pasta (5 of which you will never eat) you should give some away! There is nothing better than giving food away and blessing others!

And lastly, I am showing this because you are going to notice that my weekly Photo Show & Tell is changing. For the past 6 years, every Friday, we have gone grocery shopping with the intent of taking advantage of all of the best deals and then showing all of you what the best deals are. Every week we have bought food we didn’t need strictly with the intent of taking a photo of it and giving you step by step instructions on what coupons to use to take advantage of the deal. For us, money has become tighter recently. And I can’t bring myself to pay for and buy more food that we don’t need when we have more than enough to eat for months and months to come. In the freezer in our garage, we have at least 25 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breasts and at least 20 lbs of lean ground beef. And I have at least 15 freezer slow cooker meals that I just need to thaw and cook. I just can’t justify spending more money knowing I have all of that food! That said, if there are stellar deals, we will still take advantage of them and instead of adding them to my stockpile, we will just immediately give them away! I can’t resist stellar deals!

SO – starting tomorrow, I will do my weekly shopping trip and I will take advantage of some of the sales. But not all of them. And you may notice that I’m buying a lot less (and fingers crossed – spending a lot less). But in addition to that, I will also put together a shopping list you can follow that gives you all of the best deals, prices, coupons and total out of pocket spending. I know many of you rely on my Photo Show & Tell to help figure out what to buy each week. And I don’t want to stop helping you. So my Photo Show & Tell will show you what  I bought and how I bought everything. But it will also give you a grocery list that will show you what I would buy if I had room in my stockpile. Sound good?

Update – I wanted to add one more thing :) For fresh produce (we love our fresh produce) we will either continue to get it at the coop we belong to OR we will stop the coop and get the produce that is on sale at Publix, Aldi or maybe even Sam’s Club. We haven’t decided yet how to handle produce…

To end this, I would love to hear how your stockpiles are doing? Are you too overflowing at the seams? Or do you need to add to it? Have you had a difficult time growing your stockpile? Share your thoughts! I would love to hear them!

What a huge haul we had this week! For the first time in a long time, I found myself taking advantage of lots of deals from the current Grocery Advantage Flyer! There are some great deals in the current flyer so make sure you don’t overlook them! Hubby really really wanted to take advantage of the Gatorade & Propel deal. And I really really wanted to take advantage of GoGo Squeez Applesauce and Riceworks Rice Crisps deals. I’m still missing the $5 off $30 Winn-Dixie coupons. Every time I shop I think that I should be spending $5.00 less. But that is life right? :)

We’ve had an awesome week. Our week has spent potty training our two year old. He’s been going potty for the past 3 months all at his own prompting. So this week, we decided to switch him over to big boy undies. What a process. So exhausting and yet rewarding! Monday he had around 6 accidents. Tuesday 2. And then all of a sudden, something has seemed to click! We’ve still had near accidents and starts of accidents, put he is doing amazing. We’ve been rewarding him with M&M’s. And Tuesday we started a Thomas the Train Potty Chart. When all of the bubbles are filled, he get to choose a donut from Dunkin’ Donuts. Below is a picture of his reward from Wednesday night. We walked to DD’s and ate a late night donut. In retrospect, I probably wouldn’t recommend getting a two year old a large donut at 7:30 at night, but we were so proud of him and he was so excited so we threw caution to the wind. He is one bubble away from getting another prize on his Thomas Chart. So fun.

Happy New Year! This is the first time we’ve gone grocery shopping since before Christmas! (Well, actually, we went last week and bought some produce… but today was the first time we used coupons in year 2015!) I have to admit, it was a bummer knowing that there was no more $5.00 off $30.00 Winn-Dixie coupons to use. So I already know that my savings this year will not be as good as last year!

We had a wonderful Christmas! It was so fun to see everything through our two year old’s eyes. He really had a great time playing with family. And, he definitely learned how to open presents! ;) We drove 17 hours (each way) to visit hubby’s family in St Louis. I am shocked to report that our two year old was an angel each way! He is a very busy toddler so I was really worried (if I’m honest – I was stressed) about how the car ride would go. I am pleased to report that it was awesome. The only downfall of our trip was that there were crazy germs in the house. Almost everyone came down with a stomach virus. I came down with it the worst. And I spent two days in the basement on a leaky air mattress just wishing I could be home. There is nothing worse than being sick somewhere other than home. When we drove home, I was still sick which was not pleasant. Hubby was prepared to pull over for me though and he was an amazing trooper the whole time I was sick. I’m still not 100% which is just crazy. I’m not sure what type of virus/flu/etc I came down with but I’m still dealing with a lot of weird side effects. I’m looking forward to feeling 100%!

Preparing for today’s grocery trip was fun since it feels like so long since we’ve gone grocery shopping with coupons. The sales are not outstanding. In fact, the deals I am most excited about are the Feta Cheese and Benadryl (we have to give that to our dog from time to time). I’m hoping next week the sales are even better!
